Basketball was my first love.
Honestly, I’m grateful basketball didn’t work out because now my life revolves around golf. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Don’t get it twisted, though. I was a baller. I know ball like Picasso knew paint.
If NIKE or adidas decided to turn some of the signature shoes that dominate the game of basketball into golf shoes, I’d be over the moon. If you follow YouTube golf, we are seeing the rise and influence of NBA players on the golf course. I don’t know about you but I’m all for it.
To our anti-sneakerhead readers, you won’t like some of my propositions. You’ve been warned.
Here are five signature basketball shoes that I wish they made into golf shoes.
NIKE Kobe 6 Protro Grinch

Don’t let the high price tag fool you; this is one of the most iconic basketball shoes of all time.
The current “buy now” price in my size is $849. I’ll admit this is a little excessive but you’ll see the Protro Grinches at most major basketball tournaments in the U.S.A.
If NIKE decided to add some golf spikes to a pair of the Grinches, I’d be a happy customer.
NIKE Zoom LeBron II

It felt fitting to include a pair of Lebrons on this list due to the fact that King James has made it clear that he’s a golfer now.
After taking a glance at his full shoe catalog, I’ve decided that the NIKE Zoom LeBron II is the pair most appropriate for the golf course.
Think along the lines of the “Air Jordan 9 G.” Add some golf spikes to these babies and adapt the shoe for the golf course and you’ll have a top-selling golf shoe in no time at all.
NIKE Book 1

Honestly, the Book 1 isn’t my favorite basketball shoe. It doesn’t even break into my top 10.
But if we’re looking for signature basketball shoes that would do well as a golf shoe, the Book 1 has to be on that list. The shape of the shoe is primed for the course, only needing some spikes and a slight adjustment to the outsole for additional on-course support.
adidas Kobe 2 ‘All-Star’

You have to be a die-hard Kobe fan or an all-star sneakerhead like our Director of Content (Connor Lindeman) to enjoy the idea of the adidas Kobe 2 being made into a golf shoe.
At first glance, you probably pictured an orange Creamsicle and wondered how in the world adidas ever let this release as a basketball shoe in the first place. Stop hating. This shoe is the truth. It’s got a basic, futuristic look that would pair well with a nice pair of baggy golf pants on the course.
NIKE Cradle Rock Low (Steve Nash)

NIKE is missing out on the big bucks that the NIKE Cradle Rock Low could be making them on the golf course. At first glance, it’s just your typical Jordan 1. Steve Nash being the inspiration is what makes this shoe so epic. Nash won back-to-back MVPs in 2004-05 and 2005-06 and will go down as one of the coldest point guards of all time.
If you take a look at my entire list, the Cradle Rock Low would be the easiest to transform into a golf shoe by far. Don’t lie, you’d rock them.
Honorable Mention – L.A. Gear Airstream (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar)

The L.A. Gear Airstream made for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was made well before my time but this style is making a comeback.
Give me these in a size 11.5 with some golf spikes and a comfy removable insole and I’d rock them on the course seven days a week.
Final thoughts
Most of these shoes will never be made into a golf shoe but I do expect some of these athletes to collaborate on golf-specific releases.
The most likely scenario is a golf shoe from Lebron James and the NIKE team but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a Kobe Bryant golf shoe down the road as well. You may not be interested if you don’t like basketball but that doesn’t mean to avoid the shoes all together. These coveted lines are primed to get it right the first time to protect the integrity of the signature shoe.
I come from the camp that played basketball before golf and I know I’m not alone in that. Someday, sometime, we’ll get the crossover we deserve.
Cross your fingers, say your prayers, and keep stacking up the good karma so we can make dreams a reality with a signature basketball shoe turned golf shoe.
