Alexander claims LET Order of Merit with third win

Casandra Alexander secured her third victory of the season on the Ladies European Tour after winning the Wistron Ladies Open by three shots at Sunrise Golf & Country Club in Chinese Taipei.

The 27-year-old South African opened with an eight-under par 64 on the first day of action and bookended it with same score on the final day, sandwiched between rounds of 71 and 68, to win with a score of 21-under-par.

With victories at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open and Buccellati Ladies Italian Open earlier in the season, Alexander’s third win puts her in an unassailable position at the top of the LET Order of Merit with two events still left to play in the season.

“That was pretty spectacular, that’s the most comfortable I have felt in a final round,” said Alexander, whose final round contained six birdies and an eagle. “I made birdies where I needed to and I made some clutch pars.”

She added: “I’ve tried not to think too hard about winning the Order of Merit and I’ve sort of kept it on the down low. Going into today’s final round, I knew I didn’t have to win in order to win the Order of Merit, but I really wanted to.”

England’s Hannah Screen secured her best result on the LET after a final round 66 gave her sole possession of second place. The 26-year-old from Hertfordshire found her rhythm mid-way through the round, firing six birdies in her final 10 holes to end the week on 18-under-par.

Chinese Taipei’s Pei-Ying Tsai and England’s Mimi Rhodes shared third on 17-under-par.

Next week sees the LET head to Shenzhen in China next week for the Aramco China Championship at Mission Hills from November 5-8.
