Alexander enjoying the spotlight in Mauritius

Casandra Alexander put herself in contention for a second LET victory with a 67 on Saturday at the MCB Ladies Classic in Mauritius.

The talented star is looking to more fun in the sun in the final round following a superb display across all facets at the Legend Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage.

Taking just 27 putts around the course in the morning wave, Alexander was able to birdie the last to join the players tied at -9 through 36 holes. Part of her game plan was to hit all 18 greens and she was nearly able to pull that off with 15 greens hit in regulation.

“Yeah, I played nicely the last two days. I had one bad hole today, had an uncommitted shot, and got the consequences of that, and then yesterday made one or two silly drops. But overall it’s been pretty solid,” said Alexander.

“The tee shots are tight, so knowing that I’ve kept most of the scorecard quite tidy and pretty chuffed with that.”

A double drop on the par 5 13th undid her early good work of an opening birdie and another at the 12th. Unrattled by the error, she made two more birdies before the turn as she aimed to close the gap on overnight leader Agatha Laisne, who doubles up as the player Alexander is chasing as the Order of Merit leader.

Three birdies including a repeat of yesterday’s birdie at the ninth helped Alexander in a share of the lead at -9 alongside Germany’s Celina Sattelkau and Smilla Tarning Soenderby (Denmark).

Assessing her game heading into the final round, Alexander said: “Everything has been pretty decent … The iron play’s not as good as what it usually is, but I’ve kind of gotten away with it. The tee shots are a lot better and I think my short game improved the most, I’d say, over the last couple months. I wouldn’t consider myself a strong short game player before, and now I would say, I’ve really happy with that.”

At the time of writing, overnight leader Laisne was level through 11 holes to remain one back. But Alexander expects to be a few behind before the start of the round final. A challenge she’s up for.

“Yeah, I think we’re gonna be a couple short of what we wanted to be, but also some of the leaders still have to play, so you never know what happens, and like I said, the greens are a little bit better in the morning, but you can never count of Agathe [Laisne] out with the putter in her hand, so yeah, I think tomorrow it’ll be fun.

“We’ll do our best, see what we got, and hopefully it’s enough if it isn’t, we gave it our best shot.”

Fellow South African Cara Gorlei battled to an even par 72 thanks to a birdie at the 18th. She is two back of the pace and remains a threat given how well she scored in the opening round.

At -4 and safely through to the weekend is a pair of South Africans in Caitlyn Macnab (72-68) and Gabbi Venter, who was exceptional in round two with a flawless 66.

Lee-Anne Pace (-3), Danielle du Toit and Symone Henriques (both -1) are also set for a final round push thanks to good play on Saturday.

But they are also chasing the trio of leaders which includes Alexander, fast turning into the country’s standout player on the tour.

The 2025 Tipsport Czech Ladies Open champion is looking to add 2026 MCB Ladies Classic – Mauritius to her growing CV.

In 18 holes’ time, we will know if she has succeeded in her quest.
