Augusta Men’s Golf Season Begins With the Jaguar Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta men’s golf team will open up the season with a tournament in their back yard. They will host the Jaguar Invitational Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The 10-team field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday with the event being a shotgun start both days at 8:30 a.m.

The field consists of Belmont, West Georgia, Albany St., Francis Marion, Paine College, Western Carolina, Alabama A&M, High Point and Georgia State.

Being a smaller field, the entire Augusta lineup will be on the course and coach Steven Paine is looking forward to seeing what the Jags are capable of doing.

“We’re going to put them out there, let them run and see how they do,” said Paine. “It’s a great introduction to college golf for all of them.”

This year’s team consists of five returning players, Pieter Rossouw Jr., Chapman Barnett, Josh Daniels, Pascal Gunther and Henry Kopydlowski. They’ll be joined by six new faces, Andries Van der Vyver, Nicholas Van der Vyver, Jason Ressell, Marcus Goosen, Brandon Skidmore, and Max Thomas.

Paine is excited about this incoming class.

“We’ve got a couple of guys who’ve done some impressive stuff over the past 12-18 months so I’m excited to see them play next week and am excited to see them hit the ground.”

Augusta has five fall events and six spring events culminating in the West Coast Conference Championship.
