Australian pro Travis Smith hit the jackpot when he arrived for a practice round on Monday at the Saudi International.
Smyth joined six-time Major champion and reigning PGA Championship winner Phil Mickelson at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, near Jeddah.
But Smyth, who plays on the Asian Tour, wasn’t starstruck by ‘Lefty’, instead politely sledging him about his drive on the ninth hole.
“I’m here at the ninth hole at Royal Greens and look who I outdrove,” he said, pointing the camera around to Mickelson.
“Apparently, he hits ‘bombs’ but I’ll tell you … I necked that and I still outdrove you.”
Mickelson responds, “I am 51.”
“Do you like beating up on an old man? Is that your thing?” Mickelson jokes.
Had the pleasure of playing with @PhilMickelson today. Bombs were out there! I was more impressed with his ability to spin it back with a 10yard chip. I can confirm that he is a great bloke. @asiantour @saudiintlgolf pic.twitter.com/duF6EwTAYh
