Australian Golfer Jeff Guan Suffers Severe Eye Injury in Pro-Am Accident

There was some horrible news in the media over the weekend about a nasty injury to one of Australia’s rising golf talents, Jeff Guan.

Australian golfer Jeff Guan, 20, was airlifted to hospital after being struck in the eye by a golf ball during a Pro-Am event at Club Catalina, Batemans Bay.

The incident, which occurred last Friday, left Guan with severe injuries, threatening his career. Paramedics responded to the scene, and Guan was initially taken to Moruya District Hospital before being transferred by helicopter to Canberra for surgery. Surgeons treated injuries to his eye, and Guan was later moved to Sydney Eye Hospital for further specialist care.

The accident occurred just a week after Guan’s PGA Tour debut at the Fortinet Championship in California, where he narrowly missed the cut. Having recently turned professional, Guan was viewed as a rising star in Australian golf, following promising finishes at the Australian PGA and Australian Open.

According to Adam Pengilly at the SMH, it was Guan’s first ever pro-am and he was hit by one of his playing partners.

Officials were still seeking information on how the accident happened, but according to sources speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, Guan was hit in the face by a ball hit by a Pro-Am partner.

Specialists are still trying to determine the extent of the damage to his eye. His coach, Paul Davis, expressed concerns over Guan’s long-term vision and the potential impact on his career, as specialists continue to assess the extent of the damage to his eye.
