Distance is one of the easiest things to see in an iron test. The ball goes farther or it doesn’t. But finding the best irons for distance is not as simple as sorting by carry yardage and calling it done.
In our 2026 iron testing, we tested 47 iron models across four categories: player’s irons, player’s distance irons, game-improvement irons and super game-improvement irons. Some of the longest irons were also strong overall performers. Others were clearly built for speed but gave something back in greens in regulation or overall ranking.
Here are the longest irons of 2026.

| Category | Best For Distance | Runner-Up | Third |

| Player’s Distance Irons | PING i540 | Mizuno Pro M-15 | Titleist T250 |

| Super Game-Improvement Irons | PING G740 | Callaway Quantum Max OS | Tour Edge Hot Launch Max D |
Best player’s irons for distance
In the player’s iron category, the Callaway Apex Ai 150 was the raw distance standout. It led the group in carry and total distance which is not always easy to do in a category where manufacturers are still trying to preserve feel, workability and a more compact shape.
The Apex Ai 150 also finished fourth overall so this was not just a long iron with nothing else to offer. There was a bit of a tradeoff in greens in regulation where it ranked 10th.
The Titleist T150 was not quite as long as the Callaway but it finished first overall and was a stronger all-around performer.
| Iron | Total Distance | GIR% | Straight Shot % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Callaway Apex Ai 150 | 167.68 | 57.2% | 71.95% |
| Titleist T150 | 167.15 | 55.9% | 71.93% |
| ONOFF Kuro Forged Iron | 166.56 | 55.1% | 68.78% |
Best player’s distance irons for distance
The PING i540 did exactly what a player’s distance iron is supposed to do. It produced speed and distance. It led the category in carry, total distance and distance score, making it the obvious choice for golfers who are shopping this category because they want more yardage without moving into a larger game-improvement profile.
The part to pay attention to is that the i540 finished 10th overall.
If your bigger issue is turning distance into more greens, the Mizuno Pro M-15 is hard to ignore. It finished second for distance, second overall and led the category in greens in regulation.
| Iron | Total Distance | GIR% | Straight Shot % |
|---|---|---|---|
| PING i540 | 166.17 | 28.7% | 69.57% |
| Mizuno Pro M-15 | 162.74 | 32.6% | 70.44% |
| Titleist T250 | 162.07 | 29.9% | 69.05% |
Best Game-Improvement Irons For Distance
The PXG 0311 XP GEN 8 was the longest game-improvement iron in the test. It led the category in carry and total distance.
The PXG finished 14th overall so this is more of a distance-first option than the most balanced game-improvement iron in the test.
The Callaway Ti Fusion 250 finished third for distance, third overall and third in greens in regulation. It’s a good option for a mix of distance and playability.
| Iron | Total Distance | GIR% | Straight Shot % |
|---|---|---|---|
| PXG 0311 XP GEN 8 | 152.14 | 27.1% | 59.98% |
| Callaway Quantum Max | 150.15 | 26.1% | 62.98% |
| Callaway Ti Fusion 250 | 149.53 | 33.8% | 64.88% |
Best super game-improvement irons for distance
The PING G740 was the longest super game-improvement iron we tested. It finished fourth overall.
The Callaway Quantum Max OS finished second for distance and second overall.
The Tour Edge Hot Launch Max D finished third for distance, first overall and first in greens in regulation. While some categories made it hard to find a mix of distance and playability, super game-improvement has some great choices.
| Iron | Total Distance | GIR% | Straight Shot % |
|---|---|---|---|
| PING G740 | 138.37 | 26.2% | 60.87% |
| Callaway Quantum Max OS | 135.33 | 33.9% | 63.36% |
| Tour Edge Hot Launch Max D | 132.13 | 41.2% | 67.43% |
Final thoughts
For some golfers, the longest iron in the test will be the right choice. For others, the best distance iron will be the one that gives up a few yards but makes the game easier from the fairway. Go for a fitting and try to find the iron that gives you distance you need without sacrificing control.
