CORINTH, Tex. – The Kennesaw State women’s golf team completed its first tournament of the 2023-24 campaign Tuesday at the Sam Golden Invitational.
KSU finished in ninth after a 9-over 297 third round to finish at 7-under 857, the lowest tournament score under head coach Erin Thorne and third-lowest on a par 72 course in program history.
The opening event for the Black and Golf was filled with records including program records for single-round low (277 in round two) and team-low through 36 holes (560).
Senior Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman paced the Owls during the event and finished tied for 17th.
LEADING THE TEAM:
Campbell-Nyman shot even-par in her final round, tallying towards a new career-low 6-under 210 scorecard. All three of her rounds at the event were even-par or better.
Her 4.33 par-5 scoring average led the team and was tied for third among participants.
SCORECARD:
Next up on the card was Lara Jecnik with a 2-under 214 score. The senior shot 2-over 74 on Tuesday and finished tied for 32nd. Jecnik finished first on the team in par-4 scoring (4.00).
Right behind Jecnik was graduate Bella Kil at tied for 35th. Kil also shot 2-over 74 in round three for a 1-under 215 card. She led the Owls in par-3 scoring with a 2.92 average.
Two freshmen debuts are in the books for Alessandra Nagayo (9-over 225) and Sabrina Kim (10-over 226). Both recorded one round of under-par in the event.
GOLF CART NOTES:
The Owls tied for second in the event with three eagles.
NEXT TEE TIME:
The Owls return to the course Monday, Sept. 25 through Wednesday, Sept. 27 for the Golfweek Red Sky Invitational in Avon, Colo.
