The Springboks Legends dug deep to win the inaugural TWH Legends Cup presented by Compleat Golfer at Pearl Valley following a dramatic fightback.
It was the Boks vs Proteas vs Bafana at the iconic Pearl Valley Golf Estate this week and the drama could not have been scripted.
Heading into the second and final day, the Boks were all but written off. As it stood after day one, it was a clearly a battle between Pat Symcox’s Protea legends and Stanton Fredericks’ Bafana legends.
And then the Bokke fought back.
They fought with the muster the current Springboks do and ultimately they prevailed in a true Ryder Cup-style fightback.
The Boks edged Bafana Bafana on a count out with the Proteas just 1.5 points behind.
An event perfectly placed for a repeat with bragging rights up for grabs.
One of the biggest prizes on offer was a watch worth R1.8-million on offer for an ace at the par-three 13th. Peter Machlup Jewellers were waiting on baited breath but no one managed to ace the tough hole with John Smit coming closest but without a finding the bottom of the cup.
Habari Media CEO Kevin Ferguson was full of praise for how the inaugural event came together. “A huge shout out to the Compleat Golfer team and headline sponsor TWH, who have had a strong association with other Habari properties like SA Rugby Magazine,” he said.
“A big thank you to the respective team captains and their playing squads, who showcased their ability to be top golfers as much as they were soccer, rugby and cricket internationals.
“Pearl Valley was the perfect choice of course for our inaugural event. And the three squads were the perfect representation of legends in the South African sporting landscape.”
