KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team captured the team and individual titles at the Pinetree Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club on Tuesday.
The Owls posted a 9-under par round of 279 for a 54-hole total of 6-over par total of 870. KSU finished 30 shots ahead of second-place Georgia State.
“I’m so proud to be the coach of this team and what these guys have experienced and proven over this semester,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “This is a gritty and resilient team. No matter what conditions they love to be in contention and it shows in their results each week. It’s amazing to win here at Pinetree but even sweeter when it’s going away like this and with the top two medalists in the field. It’s hard to win in college golf and this team has done it back-to-back and in decisive fashion. The KSU Owls want to be part of a bigger conversation in college golf. Claes Borregaard is a big name in college golf and he is now believing what we saw in him. Shaun Cook did not want to give away his title from last year and what an amazing round today! We are happy for a weekend off before refocusing on the trip to Steelwood late next week.”
Claes Borregaard collected his second consecutive win on Tuesday. The senior carded a 2-under par 70 to finish at 3-under par 213. He was one of only two players to finish under par in the event. Borregaard led the field with 16 birdies in the 54-hole event. He made 11 pars and five birdies on Tuesday. His fifth birdie of the day came on 18 and clinched a one-shot victory.
Shaun Cook posted the lowest round of the tournament with a 7-under round of 65. He rolled in eight birdies and nine pars during his round. He finished second overall at 2-under par 214.
Kyle Bachkosky posted a 5-over round of 77 and tied for 11th at 6-over par 222.
Luca Gallingani birdied his final hole to secure an even-par 72 in the final round. He finished 23rd at 14-over par 230.
Hunter Gillard birdied two of his final three holes to record an even-par round of 72. He finished at 16-over par 232 for the event.
Competing as individuals, Josh Ledford (76) and Joshua Todd (76) tied for 33rd at 17-over par 233. Reed Sweigart (82) tied for 49th at 24-over par 249.
