PGA TOUR pro Adam Svensson had a mental lapse which cost him a potential spot in the 2026 US Open.
During qualifying Max McGreevy made birdie to punch his ticket to Shinnecock Hills.
That left England’s Matt Wallace and Adam Svensson out … but crucially, both players should carry on to see who is the first alternate.
That’s when Svennson’s brain fart kicked in. He picked up his ball conceding to Wallace without playing on.
“This is a big deal, it’s a really big deal,” Golf Channel’s Brandon de Jonge said.

On the third playoff hole, Max McGreevy took the final available spot and Adam Svensson picked up his ball marker.

“There’s a good opportunity that Matt Wallace is going to play. Often we see the first alternate get in, it’s a big mistake made there by Adam Svensson and, unfortunately, at the end of a long day, you can make these type of mental errors.”
Now Wallace will be first alternate and Svensson,winner of the 2022 RSM Classic, second from the qualifying site in Ontario.
