Bryson DeChambeau’s easy swing drill helps gains yards and hit longer

LIV Golf star and big-hitter Bryson DeChambeau has revealed a straightforward drill designed to help golfers hit the ball longer.

The drill allows amateur golfers to hit longer by helping them allow the golf club to shallow naturally during a swing.

The two-time Major champion highlighted the common mistake amateurs often make by forcing the club into a shallow position.

DeChambeau instructed: “Stop trying to manually shallow out the club like this,” in his demonstration of where golfers often lose potential distance.

The third-ranked LIV Golfer is known to be a keen student of how biomechanics can affect the distance and carry of the golf ball.

Instead of manipulating the club, he encourages golfers to nail the basics: “Focus on the key fundamentals with a good setup and good takeaway.”

He is a firm believer that a proper setup and takeaway put the body in the correct position to launch a powerful yet efficient swing without requiring extra effort or mechanical change.

From there, the golfer who has featured in long-drive competitions emphasised the importance of efficient rotation and depth in the backswing.

He advises: “Get a nice full turn in the backswing,” as he demonstrates how effective rotation sets the stage for a shallower path.

Many golfers get steep and often top the golf ball, losing launch and power because they stop turning.

This leads to slices, hooks and inconsistent contact that DeChambeau’s drill can help eradicate.

And the key part comes in the transition phase of the golf swing: “The biggest tip – feel as if your hands drop into your right hand pocket as you rotate through the shot.”

The feeling helps the club drop onto the optimum swing path naturally, flatter – but not forced, for greater speed and cleaner contacts.

How to execute Bryson DeChambeau’s shallowing drill and gain distance:

Begin with a normal stance and golf grip and focus on a strong, full backswing with good shoulder rotation.

It is essential to have a comfortable base and backswing.

As the downswing starts, let your hands feel like they are falling gently into your trailing pocket and then complete the rotation of the stroke.

When put together correctly, the motion of the drill promotes a natural shallowing of the club, helping it approach the ball from the inside without manipulating or strangling the grip.

DeChambeau has been the prime example on Tour proving that chasing greater distance doesn’t mean compromising control – it is about the efficiency of the movements.

His transformation by building his strength organically and using the right mechanics has allowed him to become one of the longest-hitting competitive golfers globally.

For amateur golfers, learning to hit it longer without swinging harder or overcompensating can increase scoring chances and ultimately lower scores on the golf course.
