Dean Burmester worked hard during the LIV Golf break and returns to action this week with a new putting grip.
The Southern Guards GC return to JCB Golf & Country Club this afternoon looking to build on a strong showing at LIV Golf UK last season, where Burmester finished fifth individually and the all-South African team secured a third-place podium finish.
With captain Louis Oosthuizen sidelined through a recurring back injury, Masters champion Charl Schwartzel will captain Southern Guards GC this week, alongside Branden Grace, Dean Burmester and LIV Golf debutant Martin Vorster.
After a five-week break between events, Burmester says he has used the time to fine-tune key parts of his game ahead of the final stretch of the LIV Golf season.
“I worked pretty hard on my game over the break,” said Burmester.
“I’ve been working on getting a little more onto my left side in my swing because I’ve been hanging back a bit. I’ve also changed my putting grip, so it’s been an eventful five weeks.”
Vorster joins the all-South African line-up this week after being called up following Oosthuizen’s withdrawal, and Burmester believes the 24-year-old is ready for the opportunity.
“I played nine holes with Martin yesterday and his game actually looks in really good shape,” he said.
“It should be a fun experience for him. I hope he’s excited to put himself to the test against some of the best players in the world.”
Southern Guards GC head into LIV Golf UK seventh in the team standings as they continue to proudly represent South Africa on the global stage. Burmester tees off alongside Fireballs GC captain Sergio Garcia and 4Aces GC’s Thomas Detry, while Schwartzel, Grace and Vorster also begin their campaigns this afternoon at JCB Golf & Country Club.
