It’s been a very peculiar couple of years for Jon Rahm.
Two years ago he won the Masters, his second major championship, and everything looked rosy.
It was his sixth win in just 11 starts and his second major win.
Given that major winners tend to collect their titles in career sweet spots he looked right in among his so almost everyone in golf expected more to come and in a rush.
But his 2023 went downhill and he wasn’t best pleased that the PGA Tour’s reaction to LIV had compromised his schedule – you suspect he believed it forced him to play courses he didn’t want to play before and after the majors.
By the end of that year he had turned to LIV having previously been wary of doing so.
And in one and a bit year of playing for LIV a pattern has emerged: he is 16-for-16 at finishing top 10 on the rebel circuit but he continued to struggle in the majors.
His fifth place in last week’s LIV Singapore was his 16th top 10 at LIV and actually his seventh top six in a row but he will be desperate to improve on last year’s T45 in the Masters.
Callaway Golf cement relationship
Last week he and his Legion XIII team announced a new equipment partnership with Callaway Golf, the industry leader in equipment design, performance, and innovation.
Chip Brewer, President and CEO of Topgolf Callaway Golf Brands, said: “We are happy to partner with a world-class athlete in Jon Rahm, and his Legion XIII team.
“We’re committed to being an equipment leader wherever top players are competing. Now the time is right to cement our relationship with Jon and his team – utilizing his exceptional talent and stature within the game to help engage and excite fans around the globe.”
Rahm initially joined Callaway in 2021 and has earned both of his major championship wins – the 2021 U.S. Open and The Masters at Augusta in 2023 – while playing their equipment.
For the 2025 season, the current setup in Rahm’s bag includes the all-new Elyte Triple Diamond Driver, Apex TCB Irons, a Chrome Tour X Golf Ball, and an Odyssey Ai-One Putter.
In partnering with Rahm Callaway hope to further showcase their innovative equipment at the highest levels.
“I’m so happy to enhance this incredible relationship with Callaway and also extend it with Legion XIII,” Rahm said. “I’ve played the best golf of my career with their equipment over the past four years, and they continue to set the bar higher with every new product line. I know this partnership will have a tremendously positive impact for me and my teammates.”
One factor that got golf tech insiders whispering on social media is that Rahm’s team-mate Tyrrell Hatton has played PING for a long time now – what impact will this news have on his bag, if any? We’ll perhaps find out soon.
