Campbell-Nyman Leads Charge as Owls Land in Second

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – It was a blazing start to round one in the ASUN Championship for the Owls as they registered a second place finish with a 4-over 292 Sunday afternoon.

It’s the best finish the Black and Gold have had after any round since their second-place finish March 28, 2023 in the Bab Steffens Invitational (Excluding tying for second in Columbia Classic). In 2022, the Owls recorded three straight second place finishes in Valdosta, Ga. In the ASUN Championship.

Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman topped the Owls as she ended with a one-under 71 while ended tied for second place individually. That score is not only the best score for the Owls on round one but it ties the team’s best round in last year’s championship where Bella Kil recorded a 71 in 2023. It showcases her third below par score of the season. She ended round one with the most pars with 15. It’s Campbell-Nyman’s best finish after round one on the season.

Shortly behind her was Lara Jecnik who carded an even 72 round, the fourth best tally in her ASUN Championship career. It soars past all of 2023’s scores and only rivals her 2022 performances where she played at par or under for three rounds. She currently sits tied for sixth.

Just outside of the top 10 is Alessandra Nagayo as she ended the day with a two-over 74. She ended up tied for second in the 60-player field in pars with 14.

Staggering scores behind Nagayo was Nyah Kelly with a 75 and Bella Kil with a 76. No Owl fell outside of the top 30 spots individually. Kelly was sharp on the back nine with three birdies and a one-under 35 score.
