Can Yippy Pouches Make Golf More Relaxing?

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried

Yippy Pouches. A nicotine-free pouch alternative.

Who Tried It

Ty. Soft Goods Testing Manager and certified NBA ball-knower. As someone who’s usually anxious, I’m always searching for unique ways to reduce stress, anxiety and outside noise on the golf course. Yippy Pouches claim to help with stress reduction, among other benefits, so I knew I had to give them a try.

Ingredients

There are four major ingredients in Yippy Pouches. All are labeled as “nootropics” which Webster’s defines as: “a substance that enhances cognition and memory and facilitates learning.” The word nootropics is thrown around by plenty of supplement companies so take that with a grain of salt.

  • L-Theanine
  • L-Tyrosine
  • Ashwagandha Root Extract
  • Rhodiola Rosea Extract

These ingredients are alleged to reduce stress and fatigue, improve mental focus and enhance sleep quality. Another effect is said to be increased relaxation without the typical drowsiness that comes from other methods.

The biggest upside is the absence of nicotine. If you’re familiar with other pouches, you know most of them have nicotine. Yippy Pouches avoid nicotine altogether, making them a good alternative for those that enjoy pouches but want to avoid dependence.

My experience

To tell you the truth, this was the first time I had ever tried a pouch.

They were easy enough to use with my only qualm being the process of opening the tin. I read some reviews online and it looks like I’m not alone in the fact that it requires more effort than you’d expect. There’s a chance this is done to increase shelf life but it’s annoying, nonetheless.

There are Yippy Pouches made specifically “for the course” and some “for the desk.” The “for the desk” pouches contain 50 milligrams of caffeine while the “for the course” pouches contain no caffeine.

The usage process is simple:

  • Open the tin
  • Grab a pouch
  • Place the pouch between your bottom lip and gums
  • Let the flavor and ingredients dissolve into your saliva
  • Use until the flavor is gone

At the time of writing, Yippy features two flavors:

  • Wintergreen
  • Tropical Mango

I tried them both and noticed immediate flavor that lasted just under an hour. I thought my gums would feel more sensitive but they felt fine after a single use. On days where I used more than one pouch, I felt a slight sting in my gums.

As I tested the pouches over several days, I noticed a slight reduction in flavor length and intensity. I’m not sure if I got used to them, used them too much or if my gums got sore.

Coming from someone who deals with mental health struggles daily, I appreciated testing the Yippy Pouches. The flavor was great, I felt slightly more relaxed and I’m interested to see what consistent use might bring.

Final thoughts

Yippy Pouches have been added to my toolbox that I’ll consistently use on and off the course.

The flavor is great, the ingredients are much less addictive than nicotine and, if used in moderation, a 10-can pack might last you roughly 75 rounds (assuming you use two pouches per round).

When it comes to price, there are a few different options:
