Canadian Taylor Pendrith named Presidents Cup assistant captain

CHICAGO — Canadian Taylor Pendrith has been named a captain’s assistant for the International Team at next month’s Presidents Cup.

The 35-year-old from Richmond Hill, Ont., will work under captain Geoff Ogilvy alongside Trevor Immelman, Camilo Villegas and Tim Clark.

Pendrith represented the International Team at the past two Presidents Cups, making his debut in 2022 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., before competing on home soil at Royal Montreal Golf Club in 2024.

“Being asked to serve as a captain’s assistant is incredibly meaningful,” Pendrith told Sportsnet.

Pendrith said he was grateful to Ogilvy for the opportunity and was looking forward to supporting the team’s players at Medinah.

Pendrith and Clark were announced as assistants Tuesday, completing Ogilvy’s leadership group.

Ogilvy said Clark’s experience in team golf and Pendrith’s involvement in the two most recent Presidents Cups would provide valuable perspectives as the International Team prepares for the competition.

Pendrith earned two top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, including a playoff loss at the ISCO Championship in July. He finished 89th in the FedEx Cup standings and did not qualify for the playoffs.

A one-time PGA Tour winner, Pendrith captured the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in 2024.

He was selected by Immelman to make his Presidents Cup debut in 2022. Two years later, Pendrith was one of three Canadians chosen by captain Mike Weir for the event at Royal Montreal, joining Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont., and Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont.

Pendrith earned two points for the International Team in Montreal. He partnered with Australian Adam Scott for a 5-and-4 victory over Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala during the International Team’s Friday foursomes sweep.

Pendrith becomes the second Canadian to serve as a Presidents Cup assistant. Weir held the position in 2017, 2019 and 2022 before captaining the International Team in 2024.

The United States defeated the International Team 18½-11½ at Royal Montreal for its 10th consecutive victory in the competition.

The 2026 Presidents Cup will be contested Sept. 24-27 at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago.
