The beginning of a new era

THERE’S a lot more than a new golf course at Cumberland Country Golf Club in Sydney’s west.
It’s the beginning of a new era at one of Sydney’s busiest – and most popular – golf clubs near the centre of Australia’s biggest city.
For starters there’s four completely new holes at the layout, thanks to the deft touch of leading Sydney-based golf course architect Bob Harrison.
And that’s just the start, besides new holes there are re-designed green complexes, improved bunkering and what the club aptly describes as a fresh golfing experience that starts from the first tee and continues until the final putt.
What does have golfers talking is the course transformation master planned by renowned golf course architect Harrison and his team at Harrison Golf.
His firm set out to create a layout that is both strategically-challenging and enjoyable for golfers of all abilities.
And no-one is more excited about the finished product than the Cumberland membership who were still able to enjoy their weekly golf games throughout the 12-month redevelopment, thanks to carefully-staged construction and temporary course layouts.
The club has now looked ahead and built for the future.
The redevelopment marks the most significant transformation in Cumberland Country Golf Club’s recent history.

Over a carefully managed 12-month construction program, members continued to enjoy regular golf while the course progressively evolved into a completely new championship layout. The project introduced four brand new holes, extensive reshaping of existing holes, redesigned green complexes, improved bunkering and upgraded playing corridors to create a course that rewards strategy while remaining enjoyable for golfers of every ability.
Officially opened in July, the new layout has already received an overwhelmingly positive response from members and visitors alike, reaffirming Cumberland’s reputation as one of Sydney’s premier public access golf courses.
More than 560 competition rounds were played during the opening weekend alone—a fitting celebration of the club’s exciting new chapter.
Salus Cumberland
While the golf course redevelopment represents the beginning of a new era on the fairways, the next chapter in Cumberland’s long-term vision will see the delivery of Salus Cumberland, a premium retirement living community overlooking the course.
This important collaboration between Cumberland Country Golf Club and Pariter will help create a unique golf and lifestyle destination where beautifully landscaped surrounds, open green space, community living and quality golf complement one another. More than simply a residential development, Salus Cumberland has been carefully planned to sit comfortably alongside the club and strengthen the broader precinct for years to come.
The development will further support the long-term sustainability of Cumberland Country Golf Club, helping ensure the club remains a vibrant sporting and social hub for members, visitors and the wider community. At a time when many golf clubs are looking at ways to secure their future, Cumberland’s approach is focused on creating a stronger, more integrated destination that balances golf, lifestyle and community.

For the club, the partnership brings another layer of energy and purpose to the site. The recent redevelopment has already created a championship-quality course that can be expected to serve members and visitors for generations to come.
