The South African will make his US Open debut after getting into the field as the first alternate from the Walton Heath Golf Club final qualifier.
He was in a 4-for-1 playoff for last qualifying spot and wound up as the first alternate after posting 10-under 134. Du Plessis owns five worldwide professional victories, three of which have come on the Sunshine Tour. Du Plessis’ last title on the circuit came in the 2025 Blue Label Limited Challenge.
On Tuesday, Du Plessis will get a work out at the tough venue alongside Americans Patrick Reed and JB Holmes. Amateur Brandon Holtz completes the practise round group.
Schaper will head out for a practise with Min Woo Lee and amateur Eric Lee.
Schaper will make his US Open debut after being the leading player on the 2026 DP World Tour Race to Dubai, not otherwise exempt. The South African has claimed a pair of DP World Tour titles: the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Championship and the 2025 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, both events co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour. As an amateur, Schaper represented the International Team in the 2017 and 2019 Junior Presidents Cup.
Schaper turned professional in 2020.
The year’s third Major tees off on Thursday.
