England selections named for World Amateur Team Championships

England Golf has today named the six men and women who will represent the country at this year’s World Amateur Team Championships in Paris.

The 29th women’s championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy will be held from 24-27 August and the 32nd men’s championship for the Eisenhower Trophy from 31 August-3rd September.

After a break in 2020 due to Covid, Le Golf National (Albatros course) and Golf de Saint-Nom-La- Brèteche (Red Course) near Paris will jointly stage this year’s championships.

Le Golf National was the site of the 2018 Ryder Cup and will also play host to the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Brèteche staged the prestigious Trophée Lancôme for 34 years and hosted the France v England men’s match earlier this year.

Format

Each team member will play 18 holes of stroke play on each day of competition.

In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round.

The four-day (72-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship.

England’s men achieved their best result in the Eisenhower Trophy in 2016 when the trio of Alfie Plant, Scott Gregory and Jamie Bower won the silver medal.

The women are aiming to achieve England’s first podium finish in the Espirito Santo since the trio of Bridget Jackson, Ruth Porter and Marley Spearman won a bronze medal in 1964.
