Evnroll’s perennial putter producer Guerin Rife is at it again. He’s come up with something new to help at least some of us putt better.
Rife has spent decades developing technologies that will help you make more putts. Case in point: Evnroll’s SweetFace
2.0 grooves, renowned for their ability to normalize distance and dispersion.
It’s safe to assume that if Evnroll is adding something new to a putter, then they believe the new technology will make you a better putter.
With the new EZPZ mallet, Evnroll added something that many other companies are removing from their putters these days.
They added torque.

The new Evnroll EZPZ mallet features “Reverse Torque Technology.” By using a novel, yet fairly traditional-looking plumber’s neck, Evnroll positioned 60 percent of the head’s mass below the shaft axis.
(By the way, for you “Z = Zed” folk, EZPZ is intended to read as Easy Peasy.)
Remember, many companies achieve zero-torque builds by having the shaft axis correspond with the putter’s center of gravity. This balances the mass around the shaft, banishing torque from the putting stroke.
The mass distribution scheme for the EZPZ creates torque. Not significant amounts, just enough to make the putter move and feel differently during the swing than a zero-torque or traditional putter.
Evnroll believes this new design will fit players who just don’t quite mesh with the rotation of a zero-torque or a traditional putter. For these players, Reverse Torque Technology could deliver the perfect amount of torque.

Slowing, not stopping, the face rotation

The “Slower Face Rotation” concept is especially interesting. As for the “slower” part, that comparison is versus a traditional putter.
In contrast, the Reverse Torque EZPZ rotates faster than a zero-torque putter since those do not have any face rotation.
The change in torque profile will also create a change in face awareness. With a traditional putter, the face rotation can be too fast to consistently track. On the other hand, critics of zero-torque putters often mention that they can’t feel where the face is at all.

If that was your zero-torque experience, you may really like the feel of the EZPZ. With the EZPZ’s Reverse Torque Technology, you can feel the face at an easily trackable pace. It reestablishes the cooperative relationship between golfer and putter.
Think of a zero-torque putter as a car in full autonomous driving mode. The car takes care of everything and you don’t even need to hold the wheel.
The Reverse Torque putter would be a similar car but with all the assistive driving technologies turned on. The driver still steers the car but the tech takes care of careless lane drifts and surprise braking events.
SweetFace
2.0, adjustable weights and a multi-material shaft

While the Reverse Torque hosel is the main technology story, Evnroll has included other assistive putting technologies as well.
The SweetFace
2.0 is an obvious inclusion. These faces have the grooves that propelled Evnroll putters to multiple MGS Most Wanted Putter victories.
The variable depth and thickness of the grooves creates a face that corrects for distance and dispersal on strikes that miss the sweet spot. Yes, they actually work as advertised.

Evnroll’s precision construction methodologies are in the EZPZ as well. The head is 100 percent milled. The main body is milled 6061 aluminum with the rear wing milled from stainless steel.
The EZPZ has two adjustable sole weights. Should you find that the stock weights are too heavy or too light, you can buy a new set of weights at the Evnroll website for only $25.

The EZPZ is shafted with the UST Mamiya ALL-IN
multi-material shaft. The lower steel section provides consistency and stability while the graphite upper region dampens unwanted vibrations.
A closer look at the Evnroll EZPZ Reverse Torque putter

The Evnroll EZPZ is very similar to the Evnroll ORIGIN ER10 mallet. The big difference is that the ER10 is shafted with a single-bend KBS CT Tour putter shaft. That combination produces just a bit of toe hang.
The new hosel in the EZPZ creates a bit of toe-up “hang.” The toe is not near vertical but it is above the horizontal plane. It also has the one-shaft offset that you expect to see from a plumber’s neck.
Evnroll ORIGINS ER10
Though they are obviously similar putters, the neck difference makes the putters play very differently. If we compare the ER10 to the EZPZ, we will see less face rotation in the latter.

The question then becomes how does less rotation equate to slower rotation?
Let’s assume the timing of the putter stroke is constant for the EZPZ and the ER10. If the ER10’s face opens and closes during the stroke, there will be a period of time when the face is square to the target line, ideally at impact.
If the rotation of the EZPZ is less during the same stroke duration, then the face should spend more time in this square orientation.

Another way to look at it is since the face rotates less than a traditional putter, you have a longer time during the stroke to return the EZPZ to square than you would with the ER10 where the rotation is more dramatic.
Naturally, the EZPZ will rotate faster than a zero-torque putter, changing the comparison. As I mentioned, the biggest difference between these two putter types is that you are likely to have increased face awareness with the addition of some torque.
Evnroll 38 Tour Spec EZPZ

If you are a counterbalanced putter person, you should check out the 38 Tour Spec version of the EZPZ. As you could guess from the name, the 38 Tour Spec EZPZ features a 38-inch shaft. The grip is also much larger and heavier than the stock grip.
The extra weight of the grip and shaft helps counterbalance the heavier head, creating a very stable putter. Remember, you’ll grip this putter at your traditional spot, allowing the shaft to extend above your hand position.

By the way, the weight’s rings are colored according to the mass of the weight. The stock EZPZ weights are 12.5 grams each with the 38 Tour Spec weights increasing to 20 grams each.
If that’s not enough weight, you can bump it another 45 grams by choosing the 42.5-gram weights. Those are the ones with all of the circles painted black.
EZPZ play impressions

As a fan of the ORIGINS ER10, I was very excited to roll some balls with the EZPZ. I’ve also been on the fence lately about how well zero-torque putters fit my stroke. Could Reverse Torque be the solution?
First, let’s talk about the EZPZ aesthetic. As with the ER10, there is a lot going on with this putter at address. You have the large profile, the wing-shaped weight and the new neck competing for your eyes at address.

There is no denying the EZPZ has a busy look at address but if you are like me, you’ll quickly ignore the elements that are not involved in aiming.
For me, that equated to focusing on the long rectangular shape at the center of the putter. Some of you may use the diagonal wing lines to aim. You be you when you aim the putter.
No matter your targeting scheme, that single sight dot on the front edge works great to focus your attention after you’ve lined up your putt.
Dig them grooves, baby

As expected, the SweetFace
2.0 grooves put a great roll on the ball. Impact creates a “tink” sound with the ball leaving at what I would consider a moderate pace. The grooves produce a tight dispersal ring but you will need to spend some time practicing to get that ring consistently at the desired distance.
Though this is totally subjective, I believe the grooves work as advertised. From the get-go, the balls I rolled on the green ended up close to each other.
This was especially true for the 38 Tour Spec version of the EZPZ. I found this surprising as I typically don’t mesh well with longer-than-standard putters.
I prefer the feel of the standard-length model but the 38 Tour Spec EZPZ was the more consistent version in my initial testing. I’m curious to see how this shapes up in future head-to-head testing sessions.

For those interested in such things, the EZPZ is also a solid scooper of the ball.
Are reduced-torque putters golf’s next squishy mystery dumplings?

By my count, there are three major putter companies offering putters with added-torque profiles. Toulon pushed the toe above horizontal with their Formula 45 mallet. Bettinardi recently released their Antidote Hexperimental #2 mallet where they swapped out a zero-torque SB2 neck for a plumber’s neck. Admittedly, that putter ended up with a traditional below-horizontal toe hang.
Now Evnroll has launched something with novel torque as well. Something is changing in the putter market.
One unusual putter could be dismissed as a creative novelty but three putters with altered torque profiles sounds like a trend to me. I am starting to think we may see lots more of this coming in 2027.

If this new torque market emerges, companies will need to bring their A games if they hope to compete with the Evnroll EZPZ. The combination of the new Reverse Torque Technology and Evnroll’s time-tested other putter technologies sets a remarkably high standard for any other putters that follow.
