Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra claimed his second consecutive win on the European Tour with a five-shot victory at the Italian Open on Sunday, in the process securing his spot at the Open Championship.
The 26-year-old now has three tour titles as he followed up his victory at the Dutch Open earlier in June with a 24-under-par win at Circolo Golf Torino.
“I’m feeling great, winning’s always fun but that’s what we work for. I’m very proud of myself,” Chacarra said.
The title means he will play at Royal Birkdale next month after he secured his berth at the 154th Open Championship.
“I’m very excited. I’ve never played there, I’ve always dreamed of playing it and been watching on TV since I was little. Excited to be out there, now it’s time to celebrate and then we can focus on that,” he said.
Chacarra held off England’s Matt Wallace and Chilean Joaquin Niemann for victory in Italy.
