Five of the eight South Africans at The Open managed to play their way into the weekend as they go out early seeking a low score in round three.
Only three South Africans missed the +1 cut line on Friday as Jayden Schaper, recent DP World Tour winner Michael Hollick and amateur Jack Buchanan head home.
Schaper made three back nine bogeys with just a birdie at the par 5 17th to miss the mark by a single shot.
Aldrich Potgieter made the cut on the number thanks to a long eagle putt on the 17th. He starts at 10am today and will hope for calm early morning conditions.
One of the best rounds of the day saw Casey Jarvis get back to level par – his 67 was marred by a closing bogey at Royal Birkdale’s hardest hole.
MJ Daffue (72), Shaun Norris and Hennie du Plessis are all at -1 through 36 holes.
