Elm Park’s Anna Foster “relieved” to be finished but delighted to top the qualifiers at Palm Golf Ourika for next week’s final stage of the Ladies European Tour’s Lalla Aicha Q School in Morocco.

The former Auburn star was one of four Irish players among the 101 golfers who came through one of four 54-hole pre-qualifiers in Marrakech, carding a bogey-free, six-under 66 to share top spot with American Zoe Slaughter and Wales’ Darcey Harry on six under.

“Definitely very relieved to be done,” said Foster (21). “This week was stressful but today I got off to a nice start. I was able to make a few birdies early and kept the momentum going into the back nine.

“I wasn’t really trying to get to a number. I was just trying to keep it simple, hit the fairways and greens, and make the putt.

“I had a nice group too which makes a huge difference. I was in a good headspace to begin with and let me swing free. I wasn’t trying to force or do anything special, I just needed to trust myself and stay patient.

“I’m looking forward to playing on next week’s courses, completely different but really good in their own ways.”

Annabel Wilson shot a one-over 73 to finish tied for 10th at Samanah, where 24 players qualified.

Olivia Mehaffey carded a six over 79 but made it comfortably in tied 14th on five-over at Noria Golf Club, where 25 players qualified on eight-over or better.

The qualifiers there included reigning AIG Irish Women’s Close champion Canice Screene, who qualified on the mark thanks to a third round 75 as Abigail O’Riordan missed out by four shots despite carding a level par 73.

There was no joy for the Irish at Rotana Golf Club, where 27 players qualified on six-over or better.

Amateurs Olivia Hunt and Mairead Martin finished tied 57th and 58th respectively.

Foster, Wilson, Mehaffey and Screene will join Douglas’ Sara Byrne at the five-round Final Stage which will be played at Royal Golf Marrakech & Al Maaden Golf Marrakech from December 16-21.
