Georgia Well Represented at U.S. Senior Open

COLUMBUS, Oh. – Georgia’s golf roots will be well represented at this week’s U.S. Senior Open, with a strong group of players who have deep ties to the state.

Leading the way is former Georgia Tech star Stewart Cink, who has enjoyed a standout start to his PGA Tour Champions career after finishing runner-up in last year’s U.S. Senior Open. Also in the field is World Golf Hall of Famer Davis Love III, the longtime St. Simons Island resident and 1997 PGA Championship winner.

Atlanta amateur legend Doug Hanzel, the 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur champion, earned his spot through final qualifying and will make his seventh U.S. Senior Open appearance. Georgia residents Scott Parel and Gene Sauers also add impressive credentials to the field. Parel, a University of Georgia graduate and Augusta resident, has been one of the Champions Tour’s most consistent performers, while Savannah native Sauers captured the 2016 U.S. Senior Open title.

The Georgia connection continues with Alpharetta’s Bob Royak, a Georgia Golf Hall of Fame member.

From major champions to accomplished amateurs and PGA professionals, Georgia’s influence will once again be on display as the nation’s best senior golfers compete for one of the game’s most prestigious titles.
