PGA TOUR
A bogey on the third playoff hole was enough for Will Zalatoris to defeat Sepp Straka and win the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs. It was his first career PGA Tour win after coming close several times this past year including two previous playoff losses – one at Southern Hills in the PGA Championship. Zalatoris needed a 10-foot par save on the final hole in regulation to secure his spot in the playoff, then on the second playoff hole needed a 15-footer for par to set up a wild third extra hole finish. His tee shot hit the bank on the par-3 11th and then bounced seven times on the rocks before coming to rest. Straka followed with a shot that hit the bank, took one bounce off the rocks and went into the water. After Straka hit his fourth shot to within four feet, Zalatoris put his to within seven from the drop zone and made the winning putt. With the win Zalatoris moves into the No. 1 spot in the FedEx Cup standings, assuring him a reasonable shot at the $18 million prize in two weeks. …Corey Conners (30), Mackenzie Hughes (53), Taylor Pendrith (69), and Adam Hadwin (61) have all qualified for the second FedEx Cup playoff event.
