Not even a two-hour rain delay could stop Steven Alker this time.
The Kiwi returned from the weather-induced break to author an emphatic six-hole stretch on the closing nine, playing it in six-under par to eclipse Steve Stricker and claim the Insperity Invitational in Texas. It is Alker’s second victory this year on the PGA Tour Champions.

Stricker and Brandt Jobe carded closing 70s and tied for second, four shots behind Alker who returned a closing 66 to finish at 18-under par.
Alker won the Rapiscan Systems Classic in Mississippi, and he was set to make it two straight victories until he lost in a playoff outside Dallas by hitting into the water. Now he has two victories, along with two playoff losses, already this season.
In 17 starts on the over-50s circuit dating back to his epic and gritty debut last year, Alker has 10 top-five finishes, including three wins.

“It’s been a fun ride,” Alker said. “I’m just happy to be out here. Everything has come around. I’m enjoying my game. Everything is a lot of fun.”
The rain delay helped in another way. Alker said he was watching TV coverage and noticed his swing was a little off. He returned and tried to stay more on top of the ball, and he was practically flawless the rest of the way.
