South Africa’s Garrick Higgo produced a brilliant 11-under-par 61 to grab the third-round lead at the PGA Tour’s World Wide Technology Championship on Saturday.
The left-hander’s scorching round at El Cardonal matched the course record and moved him to 22 under overall, one shot clear of American Carson Young heading into Sunday’s final round.
Higgo, who already has a win this season at the Corales Puntacana Championship, got off to a dream start in Cabo San Lucas – chipping in for eagle at the par-five 1st before reeling off five straight birdies on his way to a front-nine 29. He added four more birdies on the inward half, including one at the par-five 18th.
“Hit it great, made a lot of good putts and chipped in once,” said the 26-year-old. “Everything was really solid and I took advantage of the opportunities that I had.”
Young, who finished runner-up here last year, kept pace with an 11-birdie, two-bogey 63 to sit just one stroke adrift.
“I’m excited to be back in the mix,” he said. “It kind of feels like revenge after missing out in a playoff last year.”
Ben Griffin (66), Trevor Cone (65) and Chad Ramey (67) are two shots behind, while Sami Välimäki (69) sits at 19 under.
Currently 57th in the FedExCup standings, Higgo is well-placed to improve his position with only three PGA Tour events remaining this season. The top 100 players will retain full playing rights for 2026.
“Not really anything new,” Higgo said of his recent form, which includes three consecutive top-seven finishes. “Just doing a lot of the same stuff.”
