Michael Hollick became a four-time winner on the Sunshine Tour with a two-stroke victory in the FNB Eswatini Challenge at Ezulwini Golf & Country Club on Saturday.
Hollick, who led going into the final round, signed for a 68 to finish on 16 under par. It was also a special moment for his caddie, Clavie Taderera, who was recognised at the prize giving and presented with a Sunshine Tour caddie medal.
It was a commanding performance from Hollick, who ended the previous Sunshine Tour season with victory in the Courier Guy DNi Tour Championship.
He opened with back-to-back birdies on the 1st and 2nd, added two more on the front nine, then eagled early on the back nine to stay on track. Despite a double-bogey on the par-three 14th, he sealed the win.
“My game plan was the same – get the ball in the fairway and not overpower this golf course. It’s short and scoreable, but still requires tactics and good placement,” Hollick said.
The par fives proved decisive as Hollick played them in 11 under for the week.
“The par fives give you a lot of opportunities here, and when you’ve got iron shots into them, you can make a score,” he said.
Pieter Moolman (69) and Herman Lobser (64) finished tie-second on 14 under, with Paul Boshoff (66) and Germany’s Allen John (70) sharing fourth on 13 under.
