England’s golfers have a chance to make it a clean sweep at the 2021 Home Internationals after more winning performances on day two of the series at Woodhall Spa.
In all three categories – women’s, senior men/women and girls/boys – England ran out winners for the second day in succession against strong opponents around the Bracken and Hotchkin courses.
On the Hotchkin, the senior men and women have an excellent opportunity to make history as the first winners of the joint event following today’s 8-4 win over Wales.
After taking a 3-1 lead from the morning foursomes into the afternoon singles, the seniors closed out the victory with some solid play.
Tracey Williamson, Aileen Greenfield, Cath Rawthore, Ian Attoe and Trevor Foster supplied the afternoon points to head into the final day clash with Scotland knowing a win will seal top spot.
England’s women also go into the final day knowing that a victory over Ireland will allow them to retain the trophy they won two years ago at Downfield.
A comprehensive 7.5-1.5 win against Scotland today has teed up the possibility of the successful title defence.
Having won the first two morning foursomes matches and halved the final game of the session, England then put their foot on the accelerator after lunch.
Emily Toy, Caley McGinty, Charlotte Heath, Amelia Williamson and Rosie Belsham all secured a point apiece while Annabell Fuller’s nip and tuck match with Hannah Darling went to the last before the Scot prevailed.
In the girls’ and boys’ event on the Bracken, England recorded a 16.5-4.5 win against Wales.
England’s boys and girls now face Scotland in Friday’s winner takes all encounter.
