Dylan Frittelli was left fuming after a shocking break in which his golf ball disappeared down the trunk of a tree at the John Deere Classic.
On the par-5 17th at TPC Deere Run, Frittelli pulled his drive and thought he might be entitled to relief.
But a PGA Tour rules official told him he would only be eligible for relief if he could prove he could play the shot, or at least attempt to. Frittelli was not happy and let the rules official know as much, as you’ll see in the video below.
Frittelli then made a meal of the hole. He dropped in the left rough, 346 yds from the green. He hit his fourth shot 204 yards to the left rough, and still had a 162 yds from the green for his fifth. He eventually made a double-bogey 7.

A good rule of thumb regarding free relief: If the incident in question happened during a round with your buddies, would they allow you to drop or tell you to GTFO?
