Is The Pegasus 1 NIKE’s Best Shoe Of 2026?

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried

The NIKE Pegasus 1.

Who Tried It

Ty. Soft Goods Testing Manager and recently converted soccer fan. I’ve tested a handful of NIKE golf shoes over the 24 months—some good, some bad. The Pegasus 1 is a winner and I’m excited to tell you why.

The good

We’ll kick things off in the traction category.

The front of the foot is supported by five heavy-duty spikes while the back features thick rubberized grooves. With each shot, I felt locked in with zero worry about slippage regardless of the conditions. As with most spiked golf shoes, be careful when walking on the putting surface because dragging your feet will tear up the green.

Comfort is the next big winner. NIKE golf shoes have been hit or miss in terms of comfort. The Pegasus 1 is a hit. The Pegasus 1 was built with a running structure in mind, backed by Cushlon and ReactX. This isn’t some big innovative change but it works.

Cushlon is NIKE’s most basic foam while ReactX is used in a number of running shoes with an emphasis on energy return. When you pair the two, you end up with a comfortable experience.

Next up is the fact that the Pegasus 1 took little to no time to break in. It took just a couple of holes to feel completely settled in.

Price is the final piece that I’ll touch on.

The NIKE Pegasus 1 is $170, competitive with the rest of the spiked market. If you’re searching for a durable golf shoe, and NIKE is your preference, don’t hesitate spending an extra $50-$75 for the Pegasus 1.

The (kind of) bad

The NIKE Pegasus 1 is stable but that stability felt slightly stiff and less malleable to me. We will see how the flexibility will change with long-term use but my initial impression is a stiffer design.

The construction felt slightly unbalanced to me with most of the firmness being felt in the front of the foot. If you’re prone to soreness near your toes, you might feel that more with the Pegasus 1. If heel soreness is your kryptonite, the Pegasus 1 may be ideal.

Last but not least is some heel slippage. I tightened the laces as tight as was comortable and still noticed a very small amount of heel slippage. It wasn’t that the fit was bad, it was just looser in the heels. If you can’t stand that slipping feeling in your heels, you may want to choose another option.

Final thoughts

If you asked me to score the NIKE Pegasus 1, I’d give it a solid 9.5/10 (this would be good enough for a top-10 spot in our 2026 spiked testing pool).

This is one of NIKE’s best golf shoes of the decade. The Pegasus 1 is comfortable, stable and a traction-based beast. The NIKE golf shoe train derailed for a while but it’s back on track with the last three heavy hitters (Victory Pro 4, Victory Tour 4, Pegasus 1).

Most of the people that I know who wear NIKE, wear NIKE because they’re brand-loyal. It’s a win-win when your brand loyalty gets you quality performance. The Pegasus 1 takes brand loyalty and gives an instant payoff that takes less than a round to actually enjoy.
