Hundreds of thousands of young boys and girls have come through the junior golf foundation created by the late Jack Newton.
THE late great Jack Newton had a passion for junior golf that was unmatched in Australia . . . and probably the world.
The former British Open and US Masters runner-up made an even bigger impact on the game after he actually retired from tournament play after an accident that almost claimed his life.
It was 40 years ago that Newton and his wife Jackie set up the Newton Foundation, which has gone on to unearth and foster a seemingly endless line of champion golfers.
And some of that passion and hard work paid another dividend last month with a ‘triple treat’ as Jack Newton Junior Golf celebrated that 40th anniversary with a new partnership, linking with the marvellous Lynwood Country Club in Sydney’s north-west.
The launch also included an exciting ‘rebrand’ and the launch of a five-year strategic plan to outline what the future holds for one of the best junior golf foundations on the planet.
In what was hailed as the most significant day since its founding, Lynwood became the official home of Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) in Western Sydney.
Lynwood’s existing junior golf academy has been rebranded as the Jack Newton Junior Golf Academy at Lynwood, with JNJG taking full operational responsibility for all junior programs at the venue.
The organisation is also relocating its operational office to Lynwood, with staff based on site full-time.
JNJG General Manager Dale Hughes said the Lynwood partnership was exactly the kind of move the organisation had been working toward.
“For 40 years, JNJG has delivered opportunities for young golfers across New South Wales and the ACT, but having a place we can truly call home is incredibly special,” said Hughes.
“Lynwood is an outstanding facility, and its commitment to growing the game aligns perfectly with our own.
“To establish our base here, run our programs from here, and welcome young golfers and families into such a world-class environment is a significant milestone for our organisation and one we’re extremely proud of.”
JNJG Chair Clint Newton said the plan represented a firm commitment to junior golf’s future in New South Wales.

“As Jack’s son and Chair of Jack Newton Junior Golf, this milestone is incredibly special,” said Newton.
“Forty years ago, Dad had a simple vision: to give every young Australian the opportunity to experience and love the game of golf.
“He believed golf was about far more than developing great players. It was about developing great people.”
Founded in 1986 by the late Jack Newton, the organisation has spent four decades developing young golfers across New South Wales. Clint Newton said the anniversary was a moment to reflect on his father’s vision and what still lay ahead.
“Everything we are announcing today is a continuation of Dad’s vision,” he said.
“And 40 years on, his legacy lives through the hundreds of thousands of young people who have come through our programs, and through our commitment to ensuring future generations have the same opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.
“The legacy lives on, and it is still in motion.”
Volunteer at the 2026 BMW Australian PGA Championship
Applications are now open to volunteer at the 2026 BMW Australian PGA Championship at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney on November 26-29.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of the championship, playing an essential role in delivering an outstanding experience for players, fans and broadcast audiences alike.
A wide range of volunteer opportunities are available across scoring, player services, hospitality, transport, marshal duties, course operations, and spectator engagement.
Full training and support will be provided, making it an accessible and rewarding experience for both first-time and returning volunteers.
Previous experience as a volunteer is not required.
