Japan’s Miyu Yamashita wins CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton

EDMONTON — Japan’s Miyu Yamashita went wire to wire to win the CPKC Women’s Open.

The 25-year-old claimed her fourth LPGA Tour victory and second this year with a dominating performance at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Club.

She shot a 4-under-par 66 in the fourth round to finish 23 under in the US$2.75-million tournament.

Leading by six strokes after three rounds, Yamashita won by nine ahead of her countrywoman and runner-up Yuri Yoshida at 14 under.

Vancouver’s Anna Huang posted a 5-under 65 to finish at 12-under par and in a tie for fourth as the top Canadian. Calgary amateur Aphrodite Deng finished with a 69 to be 11 under.

Two-time winner Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., turned in an even par 70 in the final round to finish at 7 under.

The LPGA’s next tournament, the FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass., starts Thursday.
