ATHENS, Ga. — Jimmy Beck has been named the assistant coach of the Georgia men’s golf team, incoming head coach Mookie DeMoss announced Wednesday.
“I’m so excited that Jimmy is coming home to Georgia,” DeMoss said. “He’s one of the most genuine people I know, and his experience playing professionally, caddying on Tour, and coaching at the highest level make him a perfect fit. We’re proud to welcome him to Athens!”
Beck served as the assistant coach at Ohio State University since April 2023. During his time in Columbus, the Buckeyes earned berths to two NCAA Regionals and advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2023 and 2024.
“I am truly grateful and honored to be joining the UGA men’s golf program,” Beck said “My wife, Hannah, and I are beyond excited to get back to our roots in Georgia and raise our son Niko closer to family. Having grown up in Columbus, Georgia, I’ve always had an immense amount of respect for the UGA golf program and the legacy Coach Haack and Coach Douglas have left. I want to thank Mookie for entrusting me with this opportunity and helping make Athens home.”
Beck was a four-year letterwinner for current Ohio State head coach Jay Moseley at Kennesaw State from 2011-15 and played professional golf until returning to the collegiate ranks to begin his coaching career at OSU.
Beck was a three-time All-Atlantic Sun Conference player while at Kennesaw. He claimed a pair of collegiate titles and also won the prestigious Georgia State Amateur in the summer between his sophomore and junior seasons. The Columbus, Ga., native was also a two-time A-Sun Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a two-time GCAA All-America Scholar.
Following graduation, Beck served as a volunteer assistant coach at KSU for the fall semester before embarking on a professional golf career over the next four years. He picked up a mini-tour victory and played two seasons on the Korn Ferry Tour.
