Kai Williams’ work promoting junior golf and tackling inequalities in the game has earned him the accolade of Young Ambassador of the Year at the 2022 England Golf Awards sponsored by adidas.
The 16-year-old’s passion for the game is clear to see for anyone who follows him on social media.
Kai, from Bedford, has used his reach on social media to talk frankly about issues in the game affecting younger players and what can be done to encourage more players from the black community to take up the sport.
In 2021, Kai took over the England Golf Instagram account at the English Amateur Championships to offer a junior perspective on the flagship events for men and women.
At last year’s BMW Championship, Kai was on hand to take over the Golf Foundation’s social media channels to offer his take on one of European golf’s most important tournaments.
In a similar vein, he used his friendship with influencers such as the Jazzy Golfer and Sky Sports broadcaster Inci Mehmet to take over their social channels and discuss junior golf.
As a member of the England Golf/Golf Foundation Young Ambassadors’ group, Kai works as part of a group to give younger golfers a voice in the game.
At club level, Kai is the junior captain at Bedford and County Golf Club and also the first junior to be invited onto their marketing committee.
Importantly for Kai all this work has not detracted from his love of playing the game and leading by example – he continues to enjoy his sport and represent his club, county and school with pride.
