Karrie Webb, third at the US Women’s Senior Open.
AUSTRALIAN golfing legend Karrie Webb has finished third at the 8th US Women’s Senior Open, played at the Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Webb returned scores of 71-69-77-70, for a one-under par total, five shots behind the winner, Swede Maria McBride and three shots shy of runner up Annika Sorenstam.
The long-hitting McBride took a four-stroke lead over two former winners of this championship, Sorenstam and Becky Morgan, into the final round, with her last day 73 enough to get the job done.
A week prior McBride, a five-time LPGA Tour winner and a former European Solheim Cup representative, won the LPGA Legends Championship, giving her a rare double in the senior women’s majors.
Webb collected a cheque for US$67,000 for her efforts and the winner McBride US$200,000.
Rachel Hetherington and Victorian amateur Nadene Gole also made the 36-hole cut, the pair finishing in a tie for 37th.
There have now been eight different winners of the US Women’s Senior Open, with three of them from Sweden, McBride adding her name on the championship trophy to Sorenstam (2021) and Helen Alfredsson (2019). Next year, Tacoma Country and Golf Club will play host for the ninth edition of the tournament.
Swede Maria McBride, the winner of the 2026 US Women’s Senior Open.
