TEXARKANA, Ar. — The Kennesaw State men’s golf team carded its lowest round of the season at the Conference USA Golf Championship at Texarkana Country Club.
“This team fought with everything it had this week, and sometimes that still isn’t enough,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “We were close to getting back to match play, where anything can happen. It was an incredible three days of golf, especially a final round where they left it all out there. I’m proud of this group, and especially our three seniors who led the way. They can look back knowing they leave this program better than they found it.”
KSU posted a 9-under-par 279 on Tuesday. The Owls finished fifth at 15-under par, narrowly missing advancing to match play on Thursday. The 15-under par 273 total score ranks 10th in program history on a par-72 course.
Senior Kyle Bachkosky shot his second consecutive 3-under 69. He played his final nine holes in 3-under-par 33, with birdies on three of his final six holes. Bachkosky finished tied for eighth at 6-under-par 210.
Seniors Shaun Cook (68) and Josh Ledford (72) tied for 11th at 4-under-par 212. Cook’s 4-under 68 was KSU’s lowest round of the day. Cook made four birdies and an eagle Tuesday.
Freshman Walker Gantt closed his inaugural season with a 2-under-par 70. He moved up nine spots to finish tied for 36th at 3-over 219.
Redshirt sophomore Hunter Gillard shot a 2-over 74 and finished at 4-over-par 220.
Shaun Cook will await his regional fate during the tournament selection show on Wednesday, May 6, at 1 p.m.
