For those that don’t know, Palmetto, founded in 1892, is one of the coolest courses in the US. Its undulating land and sandy soil are perfect terrain for golf. It’s about 45 minutes from Augusta National, and that’s one of the reasons why Palmetto had Dr Alister MacKenzie redesign the greens and lengthen the course after he’d finished his work on Augusta National in 1932. Tom Doak redesigned it again in 2003, using MacKenzie’s philosophy, and now Gil Hanse is the resident architect. Safe to say, Palmetto is hot property among architecture fans.
The Aiken, South Carolina course has long been four-time PGA Tour winner Kisner’s home course. Well, except for a brief time period in 2016 when he was suspended for racing golf carts. True story.
