LIV Golf Promotions, the tournament that offers a direct route to the riches of the main LIV Golf League, is to be held at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia from December 12-14.
Last year the top three players from the LIV Golf Promotions event earned a spot on the LIV Golf League, however only the top finisher is guaranteed a spot in the league for 2025, a move which has been made to allow teams greater flexibility during free agency to enhance their rosters this offseason.
The tournament comprises four rounds of stroke play over three days, including 36 holes on the final day.
Only the top 20 players and ties after 18 holes will progress to the second day’s play, after which an additional group of pre-qualified players will join the field with the scores being reset.
A second cut is made after 36 holes, with only the top 20 players and ties moving forward to the final two rounds, with the scores being reset again.
The winner will earn automatic promotion to LIV Golf League for 2025, while the top 10 finishers, including ties, will earn full exemption into all events on the Asian Tour-sanctioned International Series.
As well as providing a route to the big league, LIV Golf Promotions also offers a prize fund of $1.5 million, with the winner picking up $200,000.
“Those who have competed in the LIV Golf League consistently share similar feedback: the energy, camaraderie, and global competition have created a once-in-a-lifetime experience for players to pursue their dreams at the highest level,” said LIV Golf Commissioner and CEO Greg Norman. “LIV Golf Promotions delivers another pathway for up-and-coming players and top competitors across the globe to experience a life-changing season with LIV, and we’re eager to see who steps up this year in Riyadh.”
RangeGoats will be looking for a new captain if Bubba Watson doesn’t win the LIV Golf Promotions eventProfessional and amateur players from all over the world will be eligible to participate alongside those relegated from the LIV Golf League, and those without a team commitment for 2025 who finished in the Open Zone (25th-48th) in the 2024 LIV Golf League standings.
Kalle Samooja, Branden Grace, Scott Vincent, Kieran Vincent and Bubba Watson all lost their places in the LIV Golf League after finishing bottom of standings at the end of the 2024 season last month, but will all have a chance to win their places back.
Watson, who captained RangeGoats GC, was initially exempt from demotion on the basis that he was a team captain, but the rules were changed so that protection was no longer offered.
The LIV Golf Promotions tournament will be broadcast live on LIV Golf Plus, LIV Golf’s YouTube channel, with live coverage on Thursday and Friday from 12-4pm. and Saturday from 12.30-5pm. (all times local).
