The 2025 LIV Golf Team Championship will feature a revamped format aimed at raising the stakes and ensuring fans see the league’s biggest stars compete throughout the weekend.
The season-ending event is set to take place from 22-24 August at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth, Michigan.
Among the key changes is a Wednesday play-in match between the two lowest-seeded teams, eliminating first-round byes and guaranteeing that all 48 players across the remaining 12 teams will be in action from Friday to Sunday.
Match play will take place on Friday and Saturday, followed by a final-day stroke-play shootout, adding more competitive drama and viewing opportunities.
Also new in 2025, the higher-seeded team captain for each match play contest will have the advantage of seeing the opposing lineup before making his selections – a twist that could alter match dynamics significantly.
“I think you’ll see a few teams get knocked out that you maybe wouldn’t expect,” said Cameron Smith, captain of 2024 LIV Golf Team Champion Ripper GC.
“More pressure. Each day matters more,” added Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau.
Ross Hallett, LIV Golf executive vice-president and head of events, said the updated format was designed to elevate both competition and the fan experience.
“These updates mean fans will get more golf from our top teams and put added pressure on players to perform from start to finish as we look to crown our global team champion,” Hallett said.
“We’re looking forward to putting on a fantastic championship event filled with high-stakes competition, world-class concerts, and family-friendly activities to be enjoyed by fans of all ages.”
