Low Round of the Tournament Leads KSU to Second-Place Finish at Steelwood Collegiate Invitational

LOXLEY, Ala. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished the fall portion of the 2024-25 schedule with a runner-up finish at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.

The Owls posted a round of 15-under par 273 to finish at 28-under par 836 for the event. The 15-under par total of 273 ties the lowest team score in a round on a par 72 course in program history. It also was the lowest round shot by any team in the 15-team event. The 28-under par total of 836 ranks third in program history on par 72 course.

“There’s only pride in this team and our achievements this fall,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “What an amazing run today playing with one of the top teams in the nation (#12 Illinois) beating them head-to-head and falling just short of the team title. We are enjoying this run and looking forward to a restful, productive off season as we prepare for a strong spring schedule.”

Claes Borregaard was the Owls top finisher in the event for the third consecutive tournament. Borregaard rolled in an eagle, eight birdies and five pars to post a 6-under par round of 66. He finished fourth at 10-under par 206. His 10-under par total of 206 ranks tied for seventh in program history.

Shaun Cook carded a 1-under par total of 71 to finish tied for 8th at 7-under 209. Cook made two birdies on his final six holes to shoot under par in the final round for the second consecutive event.

Luca Gallingani had the Owls low round of the day on Sunday. The freshman posted a bogey-free round of 7-under 65. His 65 is tied for the third-lowest round in program history on a par 72 course. He tied for 12th at 5-under 211.

Gallingani tied for 12th with Kyle Bachkosky. Bachkosky made two eagles and 12 pars during his round to record a 1-under 71.

Hunter Gillard (73) tied for 51st at 5-over par 221.

Notes:

  • Bachkosky tied for the field lead with three eagles in the 54-hole event.
  • KSU led the field in scoring on par4’s (-8) and par 5’s (-31).
  • Borregaard was tops in the field on par 4’s with a 9-under score and a 3.67 stroke average.
  • As a team, Kennesaw State ranked second with 61 birdies during the 54 holes.
