Richard Mansell and Ivan Cantero share the lead after the opening day of the Omega European Masters, with both players carding five-under-par 65s at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club.
A series of lengthy fog delays disrupted Thursday’s play in Switzerland, leaving only eight groups able to complete their rounds before darkness forced a suspension just after 8pm local time.
Half the field did not start and will tee off on Friday morning.
Mansell overcame a bogey at the 10th – his opening hole – with birdies on the 12th, 15th and 17th to make the turn in 33. He finished strongly with three birdies in his final four holes.
Cantero’s highlight came on the back nine when he rolled in a long birdie putt at the 13th before making eagle at the 14th. The Spaniard added four birdies against a single bogey to match Mansell at the top.
Two-time champion Matt Fitzpatrick was among those at three under with three holes still to play.
South Africa’s Richard Sterne, home favourite Ronan Kleu and Italy’s Guido Migliozzi – who signed for a 66 – sit one stroke back in a tie for third.
