DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. – Matthew Cleary, Associate PGA of America Professional at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, captured the 6th edition of the West Pines Classic title in dramatic fashion. Cleary emerged victorious after a sudden-death playoff at West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville. The two-day stroke-play event, a staple on the Georgia PGA schedule, brought together many of the Section’s top professionals.
Cleary carded rounds of 68-68 for a 6-under total of 136, tying for the lead at the end of regulation with two other PGA Associates Chad Thomas of West Pines Golf Club and Jay McLuen of Eagles Landing Country Club. He sealed the win with a par on the first playoff hole, showcasing poise under pressure.
Francisco Bide, PGA Head Professional at Capital City Club who led after the opening round at 6-under, finished the tournament at 5-under after a final-round 71, narrowly missing the playoff.
The West Pines Classic is one of six events that count toward the Georgia PGA Player of the Year points race. These points determine eligibility for key season-ending opportunities, including a spot in the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic at Sea Island. Additionally, the top 72 players will qualify for “The Drew,” a new $50,000 season finale taking place this November at East Lake Golf Club, created to help advance the careers of Georgia PGA Professionals.
Chris Cartwright, PGA Head Professional at West Pines Golf Club, said, “It is exciting to be able to host my fellow PGA Professionals at our golf course, and it really is a great test for our staff to get the golf course in shape, all the facilities prepared, and be able to showcase what all we have in the City of Douglasville.”
The tournament was proudly supported by the City of Douglasville, with special thanks to Cartwright and his team for delivering a championship-caliber experience.
