Moving day vibes for Purcell and Power

Conor Purcell produced a sensational finish and carded a five-under 67 to go into the weekend seven shots behind American Davis Bryant in the BMW International.

The Portmarnock rookie (28) was four-over through 10 holes of his opening round and rallied to shoot 72 before going through a roller coaster of emotions in Munich.

After making an eagle at the 10th and birdies at the 13th and 14th to turn in four-under, he bogeyed the first and third and screwed a wedge back into the water at the fourth to run up a double-bogey that left him back where he started.

But he dug deep and birdied the fifth, sixth and seventh before making a 13-footer for eagle at the ninth.

“When the air gets sucked out the balloon real quick, you just need to regroup,” said Purcell, who is battling to keep his card. “There’s no point feeling sorry for yourself.

“It’s a long year knowing that scores will come if you keep doing the work.

“It’s nice to see a good score after missing the last two cuts and not really scoring well over the last few months.”

It was also a good day for Seamus Power in the John Deere Classic in Illinois.

Ranked 123rd in the FedExCup with only the top 100 exempt next year, he added a bogey-free, five under 66 to his opening 67 to share 13th at halfway on nine-under.

It was a round that left him tied for 13th on nine under, just three shots behind leader Doug Ghim.
