New hotel, even better golf course for Noosa Springs

NOOSA Springs Golf and Spa Resort, already boasting one of Australia’s top 100 golf courses, will be further improved following Noosa Council’s recent decision to approve the construction of a luxury boutique hotel within the resort’s grounds.

Work on the 69-room hotel, which will be operated by an international, five-star branded hotel manager and is expected to cost almost $50 million, is expected to begin early next year.

The 6180m, par 72 championship golf course, which winds its way through rainforest and around 10 freshwater lakes, will be renovated and improved, as befits a five-star resort.

The day spa and fitness facilities will also be upgraded and opening hours extended, and a new, expanded tennis centre constructed.

“Members’ welfare is uppermost in our minds, and we guarantee that no decisions will be made to compromise their welfare, rights or their ability to enjoy the resort facilities,” promised Ellen Guan, the managing director of GH Properties, which owns Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort.

Surveys indicate that only between 10% and 20% of guests will choose to stay at the new boutique hotel for the purpose of playing golf.

Resort members will continue to be able to book timesheet spots a fortnight in advance, and resort management is confident members and visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy the golf course.

At present 60,000 rounds are played at Noosa Springs each year – 50% by members and 50% by visitors, and there is capacity for more rounds to be played.

Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort owners GH Properties first proposed a five-star hotel in 2021.The developer initially sought approval to build 109 units, however the final approval conditions reduced the number to 69 along with the removal of one entire building included in the initial design.

The final resort design includes four buildings, an International Tennis Federation standard tennis court and swimming pools, with the project set to address Noosa’s ‘growing demand for premium short-stay accommodation,’ according to GH Properties.

The project manager is Phil Starkey, whose family built and developed Noosa Springs into one of Australia’s most successful master- planned golf course residential resorts.

“It will provide a world-class accommodation experience and further support Noosa’s brand of luxury and high-end experiences,” Mr Starkey said.
