No. 6 Men’s Golf Finishes Strong at Jekyll

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. Jackson Hiller led with a 4 under par finish, and the No. 6 Oglethorpe men’s golf team landed ninth overall amidst several nationally-ranked competitors at Jekyll Island Golf Club on Sunday.

Hiller (70-71-71) finished seventh overall, only two strokes out of this weekend’s top five players and six strokes off the lead. He posted his best round on Friday, ending the first day’s action with a 2 under 70, including five birdies and a bogey free stretch across 10 holes. Another highlight of his tournament was a stretch of 2 under from holes 12 through 16 on Sunday.

Ryan Dunn (77-70-69) in 15th, Sam Karman (72-74-74) in 38th, Corbin Scott (76-78-72) in 78th, and Beck Lewis (78-80-80) in 140th rounded out the scoring for the Stormy Petrels.

Dunn ended on a high note on Sunday during the third round of the weekend with a total of six birdies. He also posted 18 pars alongside only two bogeys on Saturday.

Like Hiller, Karman posted his best round at the start of the tournament on Friday with four birdies and a bogey free stretch across nine holes.

Along with Dunn, Scott posted his best round at the close of the tournament with just two bogeys across 18 pars.

As a team, Oglethorpe finished ninth with rounds of 295-293-286. The field featured seven of the top 10 teams in the nation, including each of the top three and six of the top seven. The Petrels have become no strangers to nationally competitive fields, as they battled among the top programs four times in the fall.

Tournament Notes

  • Oglethorpe finished top 10 in the field on the par 4’s and par 5’s.
  • Oglethorpe also finished fifth in the field for birdies (45).
  • Hiller landed third in the field for par 5 scoring at 9 under par and fourth in the field for birdies (14).
  • Dunn finished eighth in the field for par 4 scoring at 1 under par.

Oglethorpe competes at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Friday-Sunday, April 4-6, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The Petrels will storm through two events after that before heading off to the Southern Athletic Association Championships.
