I’m an underdog person. Doesn’t matter the sport or the story, if there’s an underdog, that’s who I’m rooting for. So you can imagine when one shows up in a putter test, I’m paying close attention. In this case, the underdog is Ben Hogan and these two mallets seriously overdelivered in our 2026 Most Wanted Mallet test. If you’re looking for a $250 putter that can hang with the big names, keep reading.
Ben Hogan BHM02
The BHM02 finished tied for third overall out of 29 mallets tested with a -5.7 PuttView Handicap. What makes that result interesting is how balanced it was. The BHM02 didn’t have a bad category.
It ranked fifth in the field on long putts at -8.9, a score that beat both Scotty Cameron Phantoms, every Odyssey and every PING in the test. At medium range it posted -4.0, third best among all 29 mallets. Make rate came in at 45.5 percent, ahead of the Scotty Cameron Phantom 9 at 44.2.
If you struggle with inconsistency, the BHM02 is worth your attention. It doesn’t have a glaring weakness. Testers noted good distance control and solid feel at address.

Ben Hogan BHM03
The BHM03 also finished tied for third at -5.7 overall but it got there on the strength of one exceptional number. Its -5.9 in the medium putt category was the best score in the entire 29-putter field. Medium putts are where PuttView Handicap differences tend to be most pronounced, making it the most meaningful of the three distance categories. The BHM03 also tied for the highest make rate in the test at 45.8 percent, alongside the Bettinardi BB 6.0 and Ballistic Reaper.
The tradeoff is long putts where its -6.6 sits in the bottom half of the field. If you’re someone who regularly faces 30-foot lag putts and distance control from far away is a priority, the BHM02 is the better fit. If you’re looking to convert more of the medium-length putts in that 12- to 15-foot range, the BHM03 has a stronger data argument than almost anything else in this test—at any price.

Final thought
Ben Hogan has two mallet putters that finished tied for third in a 29-putter field, beat multiple putters costing nearly twice as much, and did it at $249.99. Take a look at all of the mallet putter results here: Best Mallet Putters of 2026.
