In a golf club calendar, there are a few main events throughout the year. Monthly Medal, various forms of Club Championships, and the PGA Pro-am, a unique event where golf clubs around the country host Australia’s up and coming, current elites, or legends of the game.
In late August a series of three Pro-am events will be played on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Starting at Port Macquarie Golf Club, moving south to Hawks Nest Golf Club, then 60 minutes back up the road to the grand finale at Forster Tuncurry Golf Club.
The Better Homes Port Macquarie Pro Am is a two-day tournament on a perfectly presented golf course, while on the eve of the event, members line the clubhouse balcony and spectate a Shoot Out where the professionals in the field get a chance to hit one shot from 80-100 metres. Hosted by James Single the Head PGA Professional, the top three places win a nice prize to help them continue their playing journey.
The series then heads to Hawks Nest for the Beachside Apartments Hawks Nest Pro Am, an event which won the Golf Industry Award for Tournament of the Year in 2023. Another two-day event, Andrew McCormack the Head PGA Professional at Hawks Nest also conducts a Shootout where members and guests watch a Nearest to Pin contest from the Clubhouse, with the winner getting ALL the chocolates.
Then, back on the calendar after six years off is the Ray White Real Estate 2024 Forster Tuncurry Pro Am.
The event starts on Sunday the 25th of August when lights illuminate the ninth hole and clubhouse for the CUB Shoot Out, with professionals and amateurs taking part in a Nearest to Pin Shootout.
Monday’s first wave of players goes off in a shotgun start at 7:15 with music still bellowing through the course from the ninth hole CUB Party Hole, then at 12.15 the second wave gets their chance to take on the course. The afternoon field will be filled with leading Australian professionals and sponsors from the incredibly generous local businesses that have supported the event.
