ATLANTA, Ga. – Oglethorpe head golf coach Jim Owen has released the 2024-25 men’s golf schedule.
“Our schedule will feature a strong set of major national tournaments in both the fall and spring semesters,” Owen said. “Year in and year out our schedule ranks at the very top of Division III and this year will be no different. We will host our fall invitational at the beautiful West Pines Golf Course in Douglasville, and in the spring we will be the defending champions at our Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational that features 30 teams down on the coast.”
The fall season begins in Dickson, Tennessee, at the Southern Athletic Association Fall Preview, followed by the NCAA Fall National Preview in Rochester, New York. October opens with a return to Starmount Forest in Greensboro, North Carolina, where the Stormy Petrels finished runner-up last fall. The next week Oglethorpe hosts the West Pines Collegiate, then wraps the fall at the Golfweek Invitational (Oct. 13-15).
The spring season opens in Savannah, Georgia, at the Saran Harbor Invitational hosted by Berry College March 2-4. Two weeks later the Petrels are off to defend their Jekyll Island title at the newly renovated Pine Lakes Golf Course March 21-23. April has the Petrels playing in three states during the month, first at Marine Base Camp Lejeune. Mid-April has the Petrels in Memphis, Tennessee, at the Colonial Country Club April 14-15, then the regular season will end at the Emory Spring Invitational April 19-20.
The SAA Championships will be April 25-27, with Oglethorpe shooting for a fourth consecutive title.
“It is definitely a goal of this team to help our senior class run the table and go 4-for-4 in SAA Championships over their careers,” stated Owen.
Another goal for the Stormy Petrels is to reach 25 consecutive NCAA appearances, either as a team or by sending individuals.
Last year’s squad finished third at the NCAA Championships with the individual national champion in Michael O’Sullivan. This year, it returns a strong, deep team and has added some key newcomers.
“We might be seven or eight deep, maybe nine deep, on the depth chart by the time we get to April,” Owen shared. “We are coming off one of the very best seasons in Oglethorpe golf history last year. Five wins, second most in school history, two seconds, a third, and a fourth gave us nine top-four finishes in 11 starts. An incredible year, and we are ready to get started again.”
